Upon first visual this piece appeared to me to be the upper torso of a man in distress with his arm outstretched and the adjoining wood appeared to be kissing or whispering a final farewell which I sculpted to create a female form intertwined with the distressed male in a final embrace. Coincidentally this piece of bog oak was recovered from the same Laois bog as Cashel Man, the oldest fleshed bog body ever to have been found. Cashel Man was the victim of human sacrifice and had lived and died in the Early Bronze Age around 2000BC.
