This piece of bog yew appeared to me to look like an outstretched arm, As it is a large and long piece I was not sure how best to stand and support it so I just temporarily propped it with a length of bog oak that was in the workshop. As soon as I propped it the visual of a crucifixion nail or spike through a hand came to me. I sculpted the hand and fingers and then the spike from a square length of bog oak. The spike diameter tapers and at a point shown on the photo it is larger than the hole in the hand which allows the piece to stand vertically without any other supports.
