When I first saw this piece of bog oak I immediately saw the outline of Jesus hanging on the Cross - not the most orthodox shaped cross - more of a Y than a T shape! I left the natural outline of the body and the incredible existing wood grain as I found it and shaped the cross around this form. I had this amazing twisted bog oak bough in the workshop with its stunning cracks and a major split in the centre, The cross is inserted into the large split and is clamped tight into position with a concealed bolt in the bough. Over 2,000 years ago this bog oak was possibly a living tree in Laois at the time Jesus was crucified on the cross.
